Torre San Jacopo is a magnificent tower dating back to 1200. It belonged to a noble family from Pisa for several generations and in 1400 was given as a present to the hospital of Pisa who always left it to farmers to cultivate the surrounding secular olive trees. The tower has been modified several times during the centuries and has been recently restored by the present owners, a very welcoming family from Vicopisano.

The tower sits on a sunny hillside approx. 1.3 miles from the pretty medieval village of Vicopisano and enjoys outstanding views to the plains of Pisa and Pontedera. The surrounding secular olive groves produce a very good olive oil that can be purchased from the owners.

Things to do: You are well placed to visit all the major sights of central Tuscany. Pisa with its famous leaning tower is only 12.5 miles away, Lucca approx. 16 miles, Florence approx. 44 miles, Siena approx. 72 miles. The sandy beaches of Tirrenia (approx. 22 miles) and Marina di Pisa (approx. 19 miles) are easy to reach in 35-40 minutes.

In Bientina there is a good public swimming pool and for those who want to enjoy a bit of night life there is a discotheque. There are many good restaurants in the area serving typical Tuscan meals. The surroundings offer good opportunities for long walks in the hills.

Shopping: The village of Vicopisano has a selection of shops. Good supermarkets available in Bientina, Fornacette and Cascina just a 10 minute drive away.

The accommodation is on four levels. There are two entrance doors, one on ground floor level and one on first floor level reached by an external staircase. From the sitting out area, enter into a large sitting room with a large Tuscan fireplace, round table, comfortable double sofa bed.

An antique stone staircase leads to the second level with twin room and good bathroom (shower, basin, bidet, wc). The twin beds can easily form a double bed if requested in advance.

On one side of this twin room, five wooden steps lead to Level 3 where a door opens to a splendid dining room/kitchen with a beautiful large fireplace and furnished with a long dining table, TV and a radio. The kitchen area is equipped with stone sink, fridge with small freezer compartment, hob with 4 gas rings, small electric oven and dishwasher. Windows on three sides of the room offer good views to the hills and to the valley.

A wooden staircase leads from the landing next to the sitting room to Level 4 with a very picturesque double bedroom with a beautiful antique painted iron bed.

Please note the bathroom is accessed through the twin room and therefore the twin room might be more suitable for children. A second couple would have more privacy using the double sofa bed in the sitting room on the ground floor (alternatively if requested in advance the owners will be happy to set the twin beds up in the sitting room on the ground floor).

The tower is tastefully furnished in antique style with much attention to detail. There are beautiful stone walls in most of the rooms and the wonderful beamed ceilings throughout add much character to this very special and cosy property.

The area in front of the main entrance is equipped for eating out of doors and to the side there is a natural garden area in the olive groves with sun loungers and an outdoor shower to relax and sunbath. Opposite the tower there is a little stone building housing a pizza oven, a barbecue and an additional fridge.

On cooler days two large fireplaces will warm up the sitting room and the dining room. Firewood is provided free of charge. There is not yet central heating at the property. A cot and a high-chair are available on request.
