The name of this wonderful stone farmhouse means 'tower to heaven' and from its beautiful position up the hill at the tiny village of Ripoli you can enjoy outstanding views down the valley. The property is only a hundred metres from Palazzo Rosadi (see Property Ref. 490).

In the Middle Ages Torre Del Cielo was a sighting tower and much later in 1894 the owners' great grandfather extended the building to a large farmhouse. The property retains the feeling of the original building with beautiful beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and stone arches.

Attached to the building is an ancient stone tower with a delightful roof terrace offering extensive views over the surrounding countryside. This tower was, until a few years ago, used as a drying tower for the huge tobacco leaves used in the manufacture of Tuscan cigars. Tobacco is still grown on the estate and the owners will be pleased to show you around if you are interested.

The house has a lovely rear terrace for eating out-of-doors and a beautiful garden with barbecue and swimming pool (10m x 5m). Footpaths in the adjoining woods offer opportunities for long walks. Table tennis is available and a pitch where you can play volleyball or five-a-side football.

Notes: In our opinion this property will make an excellent base for a family holiday or for a number of couples wishing to stay together with en-suite facilities for all. The area around is delightful (see introduction to Palazzo Rosadi Property Ref. 490). Babysitter and maid service can be arranged on request - please try to book this before your stay. Check out time on departure day is no later than 9.30am.

The owner wishes you to have a most enjoyable stay. Tuscan dinners can be booked on request (charged extra). If you wish the owner will also take your party out to visit the interesting Val Tiberina (no extra charge).

There is much to say about the area and there are many sports available: golf at Club Caldese and at Umbertide; horse-riding close by; roller blading; clay pigeon shooting; water sports on Lake Trasimeno and tennis at Monterchi where the owners are offering 5 hours free tennis per week per booking. Good mountain bike tours can be booked - there is a professional organisation at San Sepolcro.

Other places of interest include Citta del Castello (12 miles), Perugia (35 miles), Todi (45 miles) and even a day at the Adriatic beaches might make a nice change (1½ hours drive).

 

TORRE DEL CIELO
Property Ref. 500 - Sleeps 7 to 10

Arranged on two floors the main entrance leads from the terrace into the corridor. A second entrance leads into the kitchen (fridge/freezer, hob, electric oven, dishwasher, microwave and coffee maker). Adjacent to the kitchen is a very attractive sitting/dining room with an arched division between the sitting and dining areas. There is ample comfortable seating and a Tuscan fireplace dating from 1894 (satellite TV and telephone).

A second smaller sitting room leads off the other side of the kitchen from where stairs access the first floor and the four en-suite bedrooms (three doubles and one twin). One of the doubles can also be converted into a twin if required but please ask at the time of booking. All bathrooms have shower, basin, bidet, wc and hairdryer.

A door from the outside terrace leads into the characterful tower, which has a ground floor sitting room with sofa and table. Shower room. Stairs to first floor access the lovely bedroom (arranged as twin or double by prior request). The roof terrace is reached by further stairs from the bedroom - this is a real feature of the house with its panoramic views. Pleasant antique/rustic furnishings throughout. Laundry room. Central heating. Cot available on request.

Additional Information At all properties towels are included with the linen. Please ask for the prices for Christmas if not stated. The Security deposit may be paid in the Sterling equivalent. Changeovers - bookings are from Saturday to Saturday unless otherwise stated (in low season changeover days can be more flexible - please ask). Arrivals are between 4pm and 7pm. Departure is by 10am. All properties are cleaned after your departure, but we do ask clients to leave their accommodation as they found it.
