Property Location

Santo Pietro is a restored three hundred year old Tuscan farmhouse of great character and charm, one of a small cluster of former farm properties that made up the original Podere Santo Pietro. It sits on a picturesque hill with fantastic views in all directions - to the mountains north of Florence, the Carrara Mountains beyond Pisa and even has glimpses of Volterra in the south east. The little village of Santo Pietro Belvedere is about a mile away and has a few shops for basics including a pharmacy and a bar.

There are plenty of places to eat out in the area and the delightful little spa town of Casciana Terme is nearby where you can find massage and beauty treatments at very reasonable prices.

The house has been carefully and sympathetically restored retaining the character features whilst including all your modern day needs. The surrounding areas offer ample opportunities for walking and rambling amid delightful Tuscan scenery - vineyards and olive groves abound. There are marked trails in the hills above Chianni a short drive away. The location makes an ideal base for touring to all parts of Tuscany - Florence, Pisa, San Gimignano, Volterra, Lucca and Siena are all worth a visit although you may feel so relaxed here that it is hard to stir far from this picturesque setting.

The property is set in its own extensive enclosed garden with mature trees, shrubs, grassy areas, olive and fruit trees. The delightful 12m x 6m 'infinity' pool will be the highlight of your stay and we are told that the views of the sunsets from the terrace are not to be missed.

Enclosed garden areas extend to about three quarters of an acre with mature trees offering shade. Barbecue. Ample parking within the grounds. The garden offers a delightful place to relax with pretty south facing views across the valley. Garden furniture provided.

There is a separate partly renovated 'cottage' which is not in use whilst beneath the main house are various closed store rooms including the old 'cantina' which still contains the original stone wine vats - regrettably empty!

Notes: Santo Pietro would ideally suit a number of couples, or an extended family, wishing to stay together in well appointed accommodation. The property is finished and furnished to a high standard and is strictly non-smoking. As the owners do not accept children under 8 years old - we are sorry no cot or high chair available.

SANTO PIETRO
Property Ref. 210 - Sleeps 8

Being a typical Tuscan farmhouse the living accommodation is all at first floor level reached up stone steps to a covered balcony at the front door.

The sitting/dining room is large with Tuscan fireplace, comfortable sofas and antique dining table (37 inch Plasma TV with Sky package including over 30 English speaking channels - Sky News, Sky Movies and the Italian version of Sky Sports which shows Italian soccer matches). Fitted breakfast kitchen with granite work tops (gas hob, electric cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and auto washer). From the kitchen a door leads through to a pretty double bedded room with en-suite bathroom - corner shower, basin and wc. A further door from the sitting room accesses the 'family suite' - a twin room which interconnects with a spacious double bedded room and shared shower room with corner shower, basin and wc.

At the other end of the house an inner hall accesses the master double bedroom with spacious en-suite bathroom (bath, separate shower, basin and wc). Oak stairs from the inner hall lead to the top of the house where the 'colombaia' offers a second quiet sitting room away from the rest of the party.

Furnishings throughout are very comfortable with cast-iron beds, carefully chosen traditional rustic furniture in dark woods and some local antiques. Décor is in pastel colours with terracotta floors throughout and beautiful beamed ceilings to complete the scene. There are good views all around the house.

What the press says

The Sunday Times Travel Section, December 18th 2005 - Vincent Crump chose Santo Pietro as his holiday highlight of 2005.

Villa Santo Pietro, Tuscany

"My dream is to restore a tumbledown Tuscan farmhouse as a secret retreat, like they do on the telly. It will be bare bricks and beams, with its own little orchard, swallows nesting in the barn and a pool overlooking time-battered hill towns spiked with poplars and castles. But why bother, when you can borrow Peter and Sue Jackson's place for £110 a head? The couple run Tuscan Holidays, and Santo Pietro is their own personal labour of love. We rolled up there to find wine chilling, sunhats on pegs, a plate of cherries "from next door's garden", even a photo album recording the restoration, so you can pretend you did the work yourself."
