This is a splendid, recently restored old farmhouse built of mellow stone with its original features - terracotta floors, beamed ceilings, archways and stone walls. It sits on a sunny hillside and is part of the farm estate Antico Podere di Pomaio. The 23 hectare estate is covered with olive groves, vineyards, woodland and produces organic olive oil, Chianti wine, honey, saffron, fruit and vegetables. The English speaking owners, who live on the estate 300 - 400m away from Il Casolare, will make you very welcome. In the grounds you will find the "Botteghina", the owner's little shop and private restaurant for the guests where you may purchase all the organic products of the farm and enjoy delicious Tuscan meals on request.

The farmhouse is surrounded by well kept grassy garden areas with some trees from where there are magnificent views to the hills and down to Arezzo in the valley. Just a short stroll from the farmhouse is the beautiful irregular shaped infinity swimming pool with a gazebo and comfortable poolside furniture. In the grounds there are good footpaths through the countryside for you to enjoy long walks.

Arezzo, a lovely town with a magnificent historical centre is under 4 miles away and there are numerous museums and churches to explore. In the modern part of the town you will find very good shopping facilities including beautiful jewellery shops - Arezzo is the home of jewellers' craft. You are also well placed to visit Florence, Siena, Perugia and many other smaller, but equally interesting, towns such as Cortona, Monte San Savino, Lucignano, Sansepolcro, Pienza, Assisi, Gubbio. They are all within easy driving distance and definitely worth a visit.

Less than a mile from the estate there is a picturesque small church which is still in use, and a very good restaurant.

IL CASOLARE

The accommodation is on two floors with a covered terrace to the south in front of the dining room and all the ground floor rooms have a door leading out to the garden. From all the windows there are good views to the surrounding countryside.

Ground Floor
Main entrance from the loggia (covered terrace), equipped with long wooden table and benches for eating out of doors, leads into a lovely dining room with a small kitchen in the corner with a sink, fridge/freezer, four electric plates. There is also a pizza oven and a fireplace. Door to small utility room with washing machine and sink. Small service bathroom having shower, basin and wc.

From the dining room there is a door into the sitting room which is comfortably furnished with sofas and has satellite TV. From the sitting room a beautiful archway links through to the main kitchen decorated in rustic style with fridge/freezer, stone sink, hob with five gas rings, electric oven, dishwasher and American coffee maker. A door on the other side of the room leads to a spacious double room that can be converted into a twin room. The en-suite bathroom has shower, basin, wc and is also suitable for disabled guests.

A second ground floor en-suite double room is accessed from the dining room and has a wide glass door leading out to the garden. The bathroom has shower, basin, bidet and wc.

First Floor
A spiral staircase from the sitting room and a wide staircase from the dining room lead up to a further three bedrooms.

The wide staircase ends in a splendid archway which links through to the very large and special master double room, the jewel in the crown. Huge windows take up nearly the whole of one side of the room and there are spectacular views down to the garden, the swimming pool, the countryside and Arezzo in the distance. An open fireplace and rustic stone walls create a truly romantic atmosphere. There are a further two windows on another side of the room. The en-suite bathroom has shower, basin, bidet and wc.

This master bedroom is connected by a double door to a further bedroom that can be either used as a double or a twin room. The two rooms form a perfect family suite but are equally suitable for couples as the second room has a further two accesses: one door leads to a hall from where the spiral staircase leads down to the sitting room; another door leads out onto a lovely balcony with great views, and from the balcony steps lead down to the garden. Also this bedroom has a fireplace and its own en-suite bathroom with shower, basin and wc.

From the small first floor hall a door leads to another very spacious en-suite double room with windows on three sides. The bathroom has shower, basin, bidet and wc. In the small hall there is a double sofa bed for occasional use.

All the rooms are comfortably furnished to a high standard in rustic Tuscan style and with some beautiful antique pieces. Many stone walls, superb old terracotta floors, some antique stone floors, wonderful beamed ceilings and a perfect décor in warm colours complete the picture and make this property really special.

Spacious covered terrace and barbecue for outdoor eating. Extensive garden areas with comfortable garden furniture where you can relax and enjoy the fantastic views in all directions. These prices are for 10 people plus a baby. Extra bed is £150 per week/£25 per day payable in advance. The prices above are inclusive of linen, towels, power, welcome pack, heating and final clean. Maid service, if required, 12 Euros per hour. Firewood included up to 300kg, if more is used it is charged at 13 Euros per 100kg. Cot available on request. Security deposit 350 Euros taken on arrival.

 

Additional Information At all properties towels are included with the linen. Please ask for the prices for Christmas if not stated. The Security deposit may be paid in the Sterling equivalent. Changeovers - bookings are from Saturday to Saturday unless otherwise stated (in low season changeover days can be more flexible - please ask). Arrivals are between 4pm and 7pm. Departure is by 10am. All properties are cleaned after your departure, but we do ask clients to leave their accommodation as they found it.
