We always enjoy our visits to this award winning vineyard in a picturesque wine growing area within easy driving distance of Pisa, and perfectly placed for touring throughout central Tuscany. Florence is only about an hour's drive away and it is also possible to go by train from nearby Pontedera to avoid using the car.

Other places of great interest which will entice the visitor include magnificent Siena with its traffic free Medieval centre and timeless atmosphere; San Gimignano - the magical hilltop walled town with its dramatic Etruscan towers; Lucca - another delightful walled town of great character just to the north; and Volterra - home of the famous Tuscan alabaster and with spectacular views from its strategic hilltop setting. Casciana Terme - a few miles distant - is a charming little spa town with a selection of spa treatments available which could be booked locally during your stay.

The scenery of gentle rolling hills and fertile valleys is a patchwork of pretty farms and small hilltop villages, very unspoiled and very tranquil. The fattoria has two apartments over the winery and four carefully prepared character apartments in a restored farmhouse opposite.

The estate produces some 200,000 bottles per year of Chianti and Vino Superiore which clients can purchase at a very low price and some of our guests, who have been there when the grapes have ripened have even helped with the fruit picking - a real family occasion, bringing in the harvest.

Horse riding is available close by and there are several good restaurants and a supermarket within a few kilometres. Ponsacco has a good market which is well worth a visit to buy fresh local produce and enjoy the colourful atmosphere.

Within the estate there is a delightful swimming pool (12m x 6m) for your use where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings - in fact you may decide that a day of relaxation would make a nice change from touring and nothing could be more pleasant than a day by the pool with a good book perhaps and a glass of the owner's excellent wine.

There is also a small building near the pool equipped with washing machine, iron and ironing board, and fridge for the use of all guests. Barbecue. Small play area for young children. Covered car parking area for guests.

SAN BARTOLOMEO

This charming small apartment over the winery is ideal for couples looking for a good location in quiet surroundings. Furnishings are in rustic style with terracotta floors. Satellite TV. Outside terrace overlooking the winery and vineyards (space for outside dining). Pretty sitting/dining room (colour TV, Tuscan fireplace) and good breakfast kitchen (gas hob, electric oven, fridge freezer). Door to terrace. One double bedded room. Bathroom (shower, basin and wc). Can be combined internally with Valmezzano to sleep a party of 8/9.

VALMEZZANO
Property Ref. 21 - Sleeps 6/7

Valmezzano is also over the winery. Entrance at rear of the property leads into a large sitting/dining room with Satellite TV. Separate breakfast kitchen (six ring hob, electric oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer). Two double bedrooms and one three bedded room decorated for children. Bathroom with shower, basin and wc. Gravelled sitting out area to rear. Access to other garden areas with lawns, trees and swimming pool.

San Bartolomeo and Valmezzano combine extremely well into one property for 8/9 with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

SAN TORPE

San Torpe is reached up a flight of stone steps from the garden. There is a small covered terrace at the top of the stairs giving access to this property and also to Chianti (see below). Own front door into large sitting/dining room with Tuscan fireplace, open plan fitted kitchen area has hob, oven, fridge and dishwasher. One large double bedroom and one small twin. Shower room has shower, basin and wc. The property has terracotta floors throughout and beautiful beamed ceilings and there are pretty views from all the windows. Central heating. Colour TV with satellite. Furnishings throughout are in rustic style. Own sitting out area for eating out of doors, under covered loggia at end of building overlooking the pool.

CHIANTI

Accommodation is as San Torpe (see above).

NOVELLO
Property Ref. 24 - Sleeps 4+1

This charming ground floor apartment may be of interest to disabled guests and has its own entrance at ground floor level into the spacious sitting/dining room which has beautiful arches and an open fitted kitchen. Oven and hob, fridge and dishwasher. The sitting room has an open fireplace. One double bedded room and one smaller twin room. (An extra bed can be set-up on request for the +1.) Very good bathroom with shower, basin and wc. The property is comfortably furnished in rustic style with terracotta floors, satellite TV and central heating. Novello has its own large covered loggia for eating out of doors, accessed from the twin room with views over the vineyard.

PRUNETTO
Property Ref. 25 - Sleeps 6

Approached by its own outside stone staircase this spacious property is on two floors. The entrance is at first floor level into a large sitting/dining room with Tuscan fireplace (satellite TV). Open plan kitchen (hob, oven and dishwasher). There is one double bedroom at this level and a good large bathroom with shower, basin, bidet and wc. Wooden stairs lead from the sitting room to the top floor where there is a galleried twin room leading through to another spacious double room. Second very good large bathroom with bath, basin, bidet and wc. The property has terracotta floors throughout and beamed ceilings. Central heating. There are good views from all the main windows.

Prunetto has its own outside eating area.

These prices are inclusive of linen, towels, power, welcome pack and final clean. Heating, if used, is by meter reading. Security deposit 150 Euros taken on arrival. Cot available on request. Maid service available at 10 Euros per hour.

 

Additional Information At all properties towels are included with the linen. Please ask for the prices for Christmas if not stated. The Security deposit may be paid in the Sterling equivalent. Changeovers - bookings are from Saturday to Saturday unless otherwise stated (in low season changeover days can be more flexible - please ask). Arrivals are between 4pm and 7pm. Departure is by 10am. All properties are cleaned after your departure, but we do ask clients to leave their accommodation as they found it. Fattoria Vallorsi, Tuscany

"Marooned in rolling countryside - woods and vineyards - this lovely fattoria sits on an estate that produces 200,000 bottles of wine a year, so it's only right that you should knock back one or two of them while the kids splash in the shared pool, play on the swings and mess around on the wide lawns.

Accommodation is in the old farmhouse, neatly converted into four roomy, well-furnished apartments, and the top floor of the winery, which has two more. There's a shared barbecue, and bike hire is available, with tennis nearby, and lovely Lucca 25 miles down the road."
