The small hilltop town of Castellina in Chianti lies right in the heart of the Tuscan hills surrounded by some of the most famous Chianti vineyards. There are panoramic views all around and this is a wonderful spot from which to tour the whole of central Tuscany. There are so many opportunities for visiting famous places - Siena, Volterra, Greve in Chianti, Radda and Gaiole will all beckon the visitor as will the most famous of all the hilltop towns, San Gimignano. A day out in Florence is not to be missed either by train from Poggibonsi or by car right into the city.

Castellina is a delightful small town with a lovely holiday feel - quaint little byways to explore and a good choice of places to eat and local shopping. Some of the wineries are open for tasting and the area abounds in vineyards where you can buy your own selections of wine and olive oil. Poggibonsi is the nearest town for major shopping - there are two large supermarkets to cater for all your needs.

Though they belong to different owners we have featured these two delightful small cottages together as they are close neighbours and share the same swimming pool.

CASA MARIA LUISA
Property Ref. 410 - Sleeps 2 + cot

Built of mellow stone this cottage is a portion of a beautiful old farmhouse. Entrance into second sitting room which leads into the main sitting/dining room and kitchen (little Tuscan fireplace, satellite TV, gas hob, electric oven, microwave oven, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher and rustic stone sink).

Rear door leads up four steps into a small private garden at the back of the house and a laundry room with washing machine. Small downstairs shower room (shower, basin, bidet and wc). Large double bedroom upstairs with views to the garden. Good bathroom (bath, basin, bidet and wc). Central heating and terracotta floors throughout.

Outside: Garden and barbecue. The shared swimming pool (9.6m x 4.8m) is a short stroll away in the neighbouring garden.

The owners live next door and will make you welcome. The property is available all year.

SAN MARTINO
Property Ref. 411 - Sleeps 2

This end portion of an old farmhouse is just opposite Casa Maria Luisa. Built in cottage style the property has its own garden area in front of the entrance door and another large shared garden area round the pool.

Entrance into well equipped breakfast kitchen with small sitting area to one side (hob with four gas and two electric rings, electric oven, fridge/freezer, radio cassette player, TV on request). Good sized double bedroom with views to the garden. Modern bathroom with shower, basin, bidet and wc. Though small the cottage is well equipped and has terracotta floors and pretty beamed ceilings as well as wireless internet access.

Outside: Garden with fruit trees, pines and flowers.

The owners live next door and will welcome you and it is possible to purchase their wine and oil. Fruit and vegetables from the owners' garden will also be available in season. Barbecue. The pool is a short stroll from the property.

"Very comfortable and, well, quite lovely. The pool was a delight. San Martino clearly is in one of the most delightful parts of Tuscany. The solitude, peace and quiet of the place (not to mention the glorious scenery) and the friendly and hugely likeable Signor Tatini (and Signora T) meant that we were able to just relax, unwind and let the stresses and strains of UK living and working just ebb away. Every one of the properties of yours we've stayed at has been different, but all have been quite perfect and it is remarkable that you have been able to achieve such a high standard of consistency. San Martino is one of those little gems that demonstrates that big isn't necessarily better - it had everything we needed and it fitted our bill perfectly. We couldn't think of a nicer place to be - Castellina was close enough to be convenient but not too close; the restaurants were excellent and the links to other places (Radda, Greve and all the others we hadn't been to in previous years) easy.
