These two lovely old detached properties built of mellow stone in a beautiful mountain setting to the north of Lucca are situated over six hundred feet above sea level with the Alpi Apuane to the west of the valley and with magnificent views to the Apennines to the east.

This is Tuscany with a difference with many opportunities for walking or trekking amid wonderful scenery although you are still well placed for visits to the main sights of the area. Lucca, one of Tuscany's most delightful old walled towns lies to the south with its historic town centre and excellent shops.

The nearest tiny village of Filecchio (less than a mile) has a grocery, a bar, post office and hairdresser whilst Fornaci di Barga (approx. 2 miles) has everything you need.

In addition to the walking opportunities the area abounds in sporting possibilities including horse riding, tennis, clay pigeon shooting, roller-skating, and fishing. There is a good choice of restaurants in the area.

There is a huge grassy garden with swimming pool (12m x 6m), plenty of room for eating out of doors and where children will be able to run and play. Some play equipment is provided for use at your own risk. The owners also keep goats, which are sure to delight the younger members of the family. Some mountain bikes and archery equipment will also be available.

You are welcome to buy the owners' own wine which is produced from grapes grown in Puglia.

Notes: We were impressed by the overall quality and the fine location of these properties, which have all the ingredients of an excellent holiday amid the stunning scenery of this fine mountain area. We feel that they would work well as part of a two-centre holiday - maybe a week here and a week in a vineyard somewhere further to the south. This part of Tuscany however is unspoiled and dramatic and will make a fine spot in which to unwind and recharge the batteries.

The owners are very welcoming and will do everything to make sure you have a most enjoyable stay. They will also provide guidebooks to help you explore the area.

 

CASA CHIOI

Stone steps to the front door at first floor level. Comfortable sitting dining/room with sofa bed leads to a second sitting area with a fireplace, and from there through another archway to the well equipped open plan kitchen (hob with four gas and one electric rings, electric oven, dishwasher and fridge/freezer). Bathroom (bath, bidet, basin and wc plus washing machine).

Stairs to three bedrooms - one double and two twins - the double has fine views to Mount Pania, which rises to over 6000ft. Both the twin beds can be pushed together. Large bathroom (bath with separate shower, basin, bidet and wc). The property has been tastefully refurbished in modern rustic style and has beautiful beamed ceilings and terracotta floors throughout. Telephone, safe and central heating are available. Dinner is available once a week on request.

IL LOGGIATO
Property Ref. 331 - Sleeps 4+1 child

External stairs to large covered terrace which takes up the whole of the front of the house. Entrance into spacious sitting/dining room/kitchen with Tuscan fireplace (fridge/freezer, dishwasher, oven and hob). There is also a lovely small gallery reached by a ladder for an extra person (TV). There are two bedrooms - one double and one twin - and a good bathroom with shower, basin, bidet, wc and washing machine.

Once again furnishings are comfortable and tasteful in modern rustic style. The property has a delightful holiday feel with terracotta floors and beautiful beams throughout.

These prices are inclusive of linen, towels, power, welcome pack and final clean. Heating, if used, is by meter reading. Cot available on request. Maid service, if required, is 10 Euros per hour. Security deposit 250 Euros taken on arrival. 7th and 8th person (Casa Chioi) £60 per person per week; 5th person (Il Loggiato) £60 per person per week (only children up to 12 years). A baby is considered as a full person. Dinner available on request once a week, price to be advised. Extra linen on request 8 Euros per person. Baby sitter 10 Euros per hour (for children up to 12 years).

 

Additional Information At all properties towels are included with the linen. Please ask for the prices for Christmas if not stated. The Security deposit may be paid in the Sterling equivalent. Changeovers - bookings are from Saturday to Saturday unless otherwise stated (in low season changeover days can be more flexible - please ask). Arrivals are between 4pm and 7pm. Departure is by 10am. All properties are cleaned after your departure, but we do ask clients to leave their accommodation as they found it.
