We have known the owners of the Badia di Morrona for several years now and have been letting their other properties - 'La Sughera' - to many happy clients since that time. We were delighted, therefore, when they decided to restore this beautiful and spacious individual farmhouse for holiday use.

The setting is beautiful - the property nestles on the hillside below La Sughera, in a wooded valley part way up a narrow country lane that serves the Badia Estate. There are vineyards and olive groves rising on the slopes above the house and open deciduous woodland below the property.

A fine private swimming pool is provided for your use. This is a lovely area for touring and relaxing - trips to Florence could be taken by train from Pontedera if you didn't want to use the car, and you can easily reach Pisa, Lucca, Volterra and San Gimignano and the central Tuscan hills by road for enjoyable days out.

Badia di Morrona produces some notable wines together with an excellent extra virgin olive oil all of which you will be able to purchase direct from the estate. Don't miss the delicious wine tasting together with a visit to the impressive winery located in the village of Morrona just over a mile from the farmhouse.

With a thousand acres of estate land at the Badia there are many places to walk around the property - footpaths and lanes to explore - a haven for wild flower lovers and bird watchers who will enjoy spotting the many varieties of wildlife from spring to late autumn. You may be fortunate enough to hear nightingales sing whilst you sit outside and savour your evening barbecue and do keep a look out for the delightful 'lucciole' (fireflies) which twinkle about under the trees after dark.

At the top of the hill the 'big house' is a former monastery dating from 1100AD - in the fifteenth century it became the Episcopal Bishop's See of Volterra, becoming the Badia di Morrona in 1938 - it is sometimes possible to visit this great manor house - an occasion not to be missed if the opportunity arises.

The property is a surrounded by its own gardens with ample parking. A delightful private swimming pool (15m x 7m x 2m deep at the deepest point) to the rear of the house will surely be the focal point of many happy holidays - steps to a raised garden area reach the pool.

Notes: This spacious and delightful detached property will make an excellent base for a large family gathering or for a number of couples wishing to stay together in quality surroundings. The en-suite bathrooms to every bedroom are a real bonus and the large private swimming pool is ideal for a swim. Clean linen will be provided midweek.

Good supermarket 'Conad' five/ten minutes drive away; several restaurants in the area serving good local food and wine. Ponsacco and Casciana Terme both have a weekly market.

 

SANT' ANGIOLA

The accommodation is on two floors with the main entrance from the garden into a spacious sitting room with vaulted ceiling, fireplace and TV with satellite. Separate spacious dining room, again with vaulted ceiling, has a large glass door leading out to the side of the house, equipped with pizza oven and barbecue. Archway through to the very spacious breakfast kitchen (fridge/freezer, six ring gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher). Back door to the pool area at the rear of the house. Ground floor en-suite twin bedroom with beamed ceiling (shower, basin, bidet, wc). Further ground floor cloakroom has basin and wc.

The hallway with stone stairs leads to the first floor where there are five en-suite bedrooms - three double-bedded rooms and two further twins - variously with shower rooms and bathrooms. Two further guests can be accommodated on single sofa beds located on a galleried open plan landing area which acts as a second sitting room and also has its own shower room off - some sleeping privacy is provided by the use of a screen but as the room is not enclosed we feel it is more useful for older children but not by anyone wanting a separate bedroom.

All the upper floor windows have views whilst one of the large double bedrooms also has a fireplace and a door out to its own lovely terrace from where there are steps down to the garden. All the bedrooms have beamed ceilings and there are terracotta floors throughout the house. Furnishings throughout are mostly 18th and 19th century antiques with wrought iron bedsteads in-keeping with the style of the interior.

These prices are inclusive of linen, towels, power, welcome pack and final clean. Clean linen will be supplied midweek. Maid service on request is 10 Euros per hour. Telephone 0.25 Euros per unit. Heating, if used, is by meter reading. Cook available on request - please enquire for menus. Security deposit 300 Euros taken on arrival. Please Note: children, infants and babies (aged 0-16) are considered as a full person. 5% discount if booked for 2 weeks or more.

 

Additional Information At all properties towels are included with the linen. Please ask for the prices for Christmas if not stated. The Security deposit may be paid in the Sterling equivalent. Changeovers - bookings are from Saturday to Saturday unless otherwise stated (in low season changeover days can be more flexible - please ask). Arrivals are between 4pm and 7pm. Departure is by 10am. All properties are cleaned after your departure, but we do ask clients to leave their accommodation as they found it.
